At the scheduled time, we'll meet at the Former Yasuda Garden and begin our tour of Ryōgoku, the legendary sumo district of Tokyo. To immerse ourselves in this fascinating tradition, which is over 1,500 years old, we'll visit Edo Noren, a reconstructed market that offers a glimpse into old Tokyo.
At this market, you'll have free time to explore the wide variety of food and traditional crafts offered at its many stalls. Afterward, we'll go to Eko-in Temple, the birthplace of modern sumo. Here, we'll admire the various monuments dedicated to the Rikishi of the past and learn about the spiritual significance behind each match.
Once we have fully immersed ourselves in sumo, we'll walk for a few minutes to the legendary Ryōgoku Kokugikan, the national sumo stadium, where you’ll have the chance to attend an official sumo tournament in this iconic venue, which has a capacity of 10,000 spectators.
The experience will be guided by a sumo expert who’ll accompany you throughout the event. This specialist guide not only knows the rules and structure of the sport but will also share with you the stories behind the wrestlers, their daily routines, the rituals of the dohyō, the fighting ring, and the Shinto roots present in every detail of the match.
