Wooden Chopstick Workshop in Tokyo
Welcome to the workshop! Once we're all together, the first step in this cultural immersion will be selecting your favorite natural wood. You'll be able to observe how each piece has its own distinctive color, texture, and grain. We'll tell you all about it!
Then, it'll be the moment to shape the wood. In this stage of the workshop, you'll learn the woodworking techniques passed down through generations. You'll feel the wood come alive under your hands as you use a traditional carpenter's plane, one of the most special tools in Japanese culture.
Plus, as you work, you'll discover the cultural significance of chopsticks in Japan and learn first-hand the deep respect for details that defines the country's daily life.
Once you have perfectly shaped your chopsticks, you'll move on to the finishing phase. You'll use sandpaper to smooth the surface and apply a natural oil finish that will enhance the wood's beauty and durability.
To end this experience, you'll prepare your handmade chopsticks to take them home beautifully wrapped. It's a truly special souvenir!
1 hour later, we'll conclude this Japanese chopsticks workshop. Arigato!
