Day Trip Details
Are you ready to enter one of the most beautiful places in the Cantabrian Mountains? We’ll pick you up at your hotel and set off on a 1.5-hour trip toward the western massif of Picos de Europa National Park. The landscapes will captivate you from the first minute!
When we arrive at the spectacular lakes of Covadonga, we’ll make a first stop at the Entrelagos viewpoint, where we’ll pause to admire Lakes Ercina and Enol. Did you know that a statue of the Virgin of Covadonga rests at the bottom of Lake Enol, submerged as a symbol of protection?
We’ll continue the trip by descending to the Basilica of Santa María Real de Covadonga, a neo-Romanesque temple rising majestically among the Asturian mountains.
Once there, we’ll talk about milestones of the Reconquista before giving you 30 minutes of free time to visit the Sanctuary on your own. You’ll be able to see where the emblematic Cave of La Santina is located and the tomb of Don Pelayo, the first monarch of the Kingdom of Asturias.
Next, we’ll head to Cangas de Onís, the former capital of the Asturian kingdom. We’ll take a 30-minute guided walk past the Chapel of the Holy Cross and the Roman bridge over the Sella River, from whose central arch hangs the Victory Cross. Imagine what it must have been like to cross it when the first Christian troops passed through here!
Finally, after giving you 2 hours of free time to stroll and eat, we’ll begin the return to your hotel, where we'll say our goodbyes after an 8.5-hour day trip.
