Located inside a mansion from the 17th century next to one of the most beautiful canals in Amsterdam, the Art Zoo Museum is a cultural gem that pays tribute to the beauty of the natural world. Can you imagine seeing a crocodile or a dinosaur up close in a setting that resembles the portraits from the Dutch Golden Age? You're in the right place!
This collection houses impactful pieces of art by Darwin, Sinke & van Tongeren, known for their theatrical style and their meticulous taxidermy technique. The pieces come to life with dazzling feathers, tense muscles, and eyes that will observe you with a disturbing realism. Plus, you can explore the museum's rooms while discovering fascinating details thanks to the audio guide included.
During the tour, you'll see rooms that evoke old cabinets of curiosities. In one of them, exotic birds take center stage, displayed like a Flemish painting. In another room, snakes and crocodiles appear in scenes that combine science and theater. There's even a room dedicated to extinct creatures, where a majestic Tyrannosaurus Rex stands out, displayed like it were found in a Baroque excavation.
After the visit, which lasts approximately 1 hour, you can relax in the museum's Italian bar, located in its historic garden. Without a doubt, it's the perfect space to rest and discuss what you've just seen.
Art Zoo Museum is open Monday to Sunday, from 10 am to 5 pm. Please note that these times are flexible and subject to change.
