Discover Siena's charming historic center and the impressive St. Mary of the Assumption Cathedral with this walking tour around the city.
Siena City Tour + Cathedral
At the appointed time, we'll meet at the Basilica of San Domenico to start this guided tour of Siena from one of its most emblematic squares. Ready to discover all its history?
First, we'll admire this stunning religious building that houses one of the most venerated relics in Tuscany: a mummified head! Do you know who it belongs to?
We'll then head over to the Piazza del Campo, where we'll talk about the famous Palio di Siena, an equestrian competition held here since the Middle Ages. It's still very popular today and has become a tourist attraction in the city.
Then, we'll start walking through the historic center of Siena, admiring the façades of important palaces like Palazzo Tolomei, which was inhabited by illustrious personalities. Nearby is the Palazzo Salimbeni, whose external architecture will also give us clues about Siena's past.
Gradually, we'll approach Piazza del Duomo for a guided tour of the baptistery and the Siena Cathedral.
Inside the cathedral, we'll see a large collection of masterpieces. Among them are La Maestà of Buoninsegna and the sculpture of St. Paul carved by Michelangelo Buonarroti himself!
After an hour-long guided tour, we'll say our goodbyes at the Cathedral.
