We'll meet at the port of Olhão at 5:30 pm to set off on this sunset boat trip through the Ria Formosa. We'll cruise through one of Portugal's Seven Natural Wonders as the sun dips below the horizon. Here we go!
Throughout the trip, we'll learn about all the unique features of this remarkable wetland in the Algarve region, discovering its environmental characteristics as the deep blue of the ocean merges with the clear waters of the ria. The contrast of colors is simply spectacular!
We'll talk about the local flora, but it's the fauna that really steals the show here. This area is particularly renowned for its incredible bird diversity, so keep your eyes peeled... with a bit of luck, we might spot a few!
Before the trip is over, we'll make a 45-minute stop in Culatra, a fishing community known for its serene, sea-bound way of life. Here you'll find small shops, cafés, and family-run restaurants that perfectly capture the local character of this hidden gem.
After this visit, we'll continue to our next stop, which varies depending on the time of year and weather conditions. In the summer months, we'll head to Praia Deserta, a pristine beach accessible only by boat, known for its fine sand, crystal-clear water, and atmosphere of absolute tranquility well away from the Algarve's busier spots.
In cooler or windier conditions, we'll head instead to Armona Island, a spot that blends nature with local life, where you can stroll along the coast, admire the garden-surrounded houses, and soak up the relaxed atmosphere by the ria. In either case, you'll have between 30 and 45 minutes to explore the surroundings. To top it all off, we'll enjoy the magnificent sunset over the Ria Formosa from the boat.
The trip wraps up back at the port of Olhão after 2.5 hours exploring the Ria Formosa.
