Discover the true soul of Marrakech on this free walking tour through the Medina, the city's historic old town, packed with centuries of history and hidden corners.
At the designated time, we'll meet in front of the well-known Café de France at Jemaa el-Fna Square, the beating heart of the city, to begin this walk through the Medina.
We'll start with a photo exhibition on the last ruling dynasty before heading to the elegant Dar Tam-Tam palace, the former home of the Minister of Justice, built in 1876. From there, we'll explore the old souk, the traditional carpet market, and wander through the artisan quarters, discovering the slipper sellers, lamp-makers, and leatherworkers who keep these ancient crafts alive.
We'll pass the Almoravid Koubba and visit the Marrakech Museum and the magnificent Ben Youssef Madrasa. Partway through the tour, we'll stop for a traditional mint tea at a herbalist, the local version of a traditional Berber pharmacy, to rest and take in the atmosphere.
After tea, we'll visit the mausoleum of Moulay Al-Ksour, once the home of a local palace owner, before slipping through the Passage of the Seven Streets, one of the Medina's narrowest lanes, which opens straight out onto Jemaa el-Fna.
Throughout the walk, your guide will share the story of Morocco's history, from the Atlas Mountains and Roman settlements to the arrival of Islam, the successive ruling dynasties, and the Berber and Arab influences that shaped the Medina's architecture over the centuries.
Finally, after a total of 3 to 3.5 hours, the tour concludes back at Jemaa el-Fna, where we'll say our goodbyes.
