Located in Campo de Santa Clara, a beautiful square in Lison erected on a hill over the Tagus River, the National Pantheon is one of the most important Baroque gems of the Portuguese capital.
With this ticket, you'll be able to visit the interior of the Pantheon at your own pace. This 17th-century monument was originally the Church of Santa Engrácia until 1916 when this stunning white temple became home to the remains of the most prominent personalities of Portugal.
Inside this magnificent building, you'll be amazed by its marble linings. It's no surprise if your gaze goes straight to its roof—the National Pantheon's dome is one of the country's most spectacular domes!
Under this great dome lies the remains of different presidents of the Portuguese Republic like Manuel de Arriaga and Sidónio Pais. Other celebrities also rest here, such as the legendary soccer player Eusébio da Silva Ferreira and the famous fado singer Amália Rodrigues.
In the National Pantheon, you'll also find various cenotaphs of Portuguese heroes, that is, empty tombs or funerary monuments erected in their honor. The most important ones are dedicated to renowned figures such as Vasco da Gama, Enrique el Navegante, and Luís de Camões.
