San Sebastián and Guetaria are some of the gems we'll admire on this day trip along the coast of the Basque Country. Complete the tour by visiting the Sanctuary of Loyola!
Tour Details
We'll leave Bilbao behind and begin our journey to San Sebastián and Guetaria. First, we'll stop at a 16th-century Basque farmhouse, an old cider press, where we'll learn all about this ancient drink. We'll even taste the natural Basque apple juice that they produce organically!
Next, we'll head to San Sebastián, the capital of Guipúzcoa. Our first stop in the city will, of course, be at the Igueldo Mountain viewpoint, where we'll enjoy an unforgettable panoramic view of La Concha Beach.
We'll head to the historic center and take a walking tour of San Sebastián to see its main historic buildings. After the tour, we'll give you 1.5 hours of free time so you can have lunch at one of its iconic pintxo bars.
With our batteries recharged, we'll meet up again, and on our way to Guetaria, we'll travel through Zarautz, a beautiful coastal town that will enchant you with its beauty. Once in Guetaria, where we'll take a guided tour of the old town. We'll see its traditional fishing port, the church of San Salvador, and the monument to Juan Sebastián Elcano.
Finally, we'll begin our return journey to Bilbao and conclude the excursion 9 hours later.
Tour + Visit to Loyola Shrine
When booking, you can choose the option that includes a visit to the Loyola Sanctuary. In this case, our first stop will be this beautiful place, built between the 16th and 17th centuries. We'll visit its spectacular basilica and enter the birthplace of Ignatius of Loyola, the most famous figure in the area.
Passing through Azpeitia and skirting the coast via Zumaia, we arrive at Guetaria, a beautiful fishing village nestled on a green hillside. In Guetaria, you will have free time to explore its historic center. Don't miss the Arco de Catrapona (a medieval passageway under a church), the Parish Church of San Salvador (a 15th-century Gothic gem) and the fishing port (with its narrow streets, bars, and typical restaurants).
We'll continue our journey through Zarautz, a beautiful coastal town, to reach San Sebastián, one of the most beautiful cities in Spain. After taking a panoramic tour throughout the city, including La Concha beach and Mount Igueldo—where you can enjoy the best views of the bay—we will take a walk through the historic center.
After the tour, you will have free time to eat and enjoy one of the best cuisines in the world. Our guide can recommend both pintxo bars and upscale restaurants.
Leaving beautiful San Sebastián behind, we'll begin our return journey to Bilbao after a 9-hour tour.
