It was the early summer of 1945, and we walked through the streets of a Barcelona trapped beneath ashen skies as dawn poured over Rambla de Santa Monica in a wreath of liquid copper." When Carlos Ruiz Zafón published "La Sombre del Viento" - or The Shadow of the Wind - in 2001, no one could have imagined how important it would become. Travel through time and follow the shadows of the bestselling novel's characters on this guided tour of Barcelona beginning in the very same Rambla de Santa Monica.

Does the Cemetery of Forgotten Books really exist? Throughout your Shadow of the Wind tour of the Catalonian city you'll discover that imagination can truly become reality... walk through the magical maze of Barcelona and see if you can distinguish what's real and what's fiction from Plaza Real, Calle del Call, Els Cuatre Gats and the Sempere and Sons bookshop.

We'll continue the route in front of the imposing Santa Maria del Mar Church, then continue along Carrer Montcada, the Santa Lucia Asylum and Els Quatre Gats, another prominent setting in the novel. Before our route comes to an end, we'll make a stop next to the Ateneo Barcelonés, to remember the adventures and misfortunes of the Sempere family, Fermín Romero de Torres, Beatriz Aguilar or Julián Carax, the key characters of The Shadow of the Wind.
